TR Pre-Order Starts Tomorrow

If, like me, you have Tabula Rasa pre-ordered tomorrow begins the date when you can start playing. This is a good and a bad thing. It’s good in the sense that we will finally be able to start on characters that won’t be erased, bad, because, well, I have a feeling they aren’t fully prepared for what is going to happen. But let me take a moment to explain myself on this.
I have in the past given my opinions on Tabula Rasa. I’ve stated that I like the game, but that I don’t quite think it is where it needs to be. I am fearful that I am going to be proven right very soon.
Some people are hardcore when it comes to leveling in games. For me, not quite so much, but there are many people who really want to be able to say they were “first.” I don’t understand the fascination but there it is. These people, who are very hardcore about leveling, will be max level in Tabula Rasa in the first month of play time. Probably several in even less than that (more likely the first week or two.)
I don’t believe we’ll be seeing enough content pushed out fast enough to keep up with the demand for these players. No game, of course, can, but most other games have some sort of definable high-end content in their game at release. TR has promises. People can’t play promises and I’m not sure they are going to pay for them either. This means you’ll sell boxes and then not so much after that.
I believe that the dev team will get out the various things they’ve promised over time, I’m just not sure it will be fast enough to keep people interested in playing for that long. I’m of the mind that, once again, the player-base has been fundamentally underestimated in what they are capable of achieving and I’m not sure this title will be able to fail without a much stronger backlash than anything we’ve seen before.

[...] Halo certainly has the name recognition to get more players — in the short term. But just as Brandon fears Tabula Rasa will crash and burn early, does an FPS have what it takes to make it as an MMO? There are literally tons of FPS titles that [...]
