How ‘Bout that Session Play
If you haven’t heard about Session Play in LotRO I suggest you check it out. Basically it boils down to this, you get to play through the eyes of some(one/thing) else. It’s actually an interesting idea and sounds like it could be fun to me. I do see where some people are coming from though. Playing as a chicken isn’t exactly what people probably had in mind when they envisioned the next content update and what it would have in it. I mean, nothing in my time spent playing MMOs has ever made me say “I wonder what it would be like to play as random critter X.”
Still, I don’t see how people can really fault Turbine too much, I don’t think session play is the only addition to the game, just something they thought would be worth highlighting. LotRO looks like it is trying to establish itself as a casual-friendly MMO, with plenty of stuff to do for those who aren’t at max level as well as those who are. That’s not a bad thing. And, if nothing else, at least with Turbine you always know they are working on updating their game as they give plenty of information. The same can’t be said of everyone else.
chicken, lotro, lord of the rings, lord of the rings online, session play, turbine, MMOG, mmo gaming

People are giving Turbine a lot of crap for this move and I don’t understand why, either. They added new content, didn’t they? Just because it’s a tad unorthodox doesn’t mean it’s necessarily bad.
People complain when they add something like this that everyone can use, but they cheer when a new raid zone is added that maybe 15% of the population will ever have access to? /boggle

… and I meant that in an mmo-generic sense, not just for LoTRO. Seems like this problem plagues most games.
