Corum Online

There is no point in trying to explain it any better than what is said in the e-mail I received, so I’ll quote a piece of it (the one that relates to Corum Online (see post title)).

[New MMORPG] Corum Online!

GPotato is proud to announce our new MMORPG, Corum Online! Corum Online will be beginning it’s Closed Beta at 5:00PM PST on January 10, 2007 (Wednesday). Players can participate in the Beta with instructions to be found at http://corum.gpotato.com or at the General Forums at http://corum.gpotato.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=8 or on our beta partner site, www.FileFront.com.

Corum Online, which was a huge success in both Korea and Japan, is a fantasy MMORPG with a very unique Guild and Dungeon system. Guilds and Clans unite in order to not only clear dungeons and instances for loot, but also to claim those places as their own. Instances all over the world can be controlled and owned by guilds. Those instances give those guilds certain bonuses such as resources or even power. Not only that but you can train and summon your own guardians that will defend these instances for you while you’re away.

Like all GPotato games, Corum Online will also be Free to Play so your current GPotato ID can be used to start right away! So what are you waiting for?!

Now, given that so far GPotato/Gala-Net has given us gems such as Space Cowboy and Fly for Fun (along with Rappelz which I have no post about to mention how good it is yet) you should be interested in this game already. Chances are you aren’t, in fact, I would bet most of you didn’t even realize they were releasing a new game, but if you take a few minutes to search the game’s site I think you’ll find some of why it could turn out to be great.

The beta will begin today so take the time out to look at it.

Finally Done; and Another New One

Rhyming not intentional.

It took me a while but I was finally able to get Rappelz fully downloaded, now I just have to install it and wait for updates of course, but it is a start. I also found and downloaded another game that is in beta, Voyage Century Online, a free game that looks quite a bit like Pirates of the Burning Seas which I just talked about a few posts back. I’ll have to see how it is, but the fact that it is free is never a bad thing.

I’ll also try to create some videos of my first play experiences in the game to get people interested. I make no promises as to quality though, I’m not much good with video editing.

For those that want to try it out (and what have you got to lose but some time, they are free to play) be aware that the downloads for both are pretty big, and if you don’t get good download speeds try for downloading off another server.

GPotato Portal facelift

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

It appears that the GPotato Game Portal got a nice overhaul to it, and it looks great now. They’ve done so much I can’t even put it all down here, but it really is a very nice change, and definitely for the better. Also, looks like they have a couple of titles upcoming which seem interesting, so I’ll have to keep an eye out.

First Thoughts: Space Cowboy Online

I just got finished playing through the tutorial and a little bit of time spent in the actual game and I must say that I am in love with it. There is only one thing that could make this game better, a joystick. If I could use a joystick this game would be unmatched in sheer awesomeness.

First off, the training stages, which teach the basics of flight, are definitely a necessity if you are just starting out. Unlike other games with “tutorial” sections I wouldn’t recommend skipping this, you’ll need it.

If you are wondering about graphics think Phantasy Star Online-esque. At least that’s the impression I got from my play time. To put it simply the graphics look pretty great (and the ship models are pretty cool looking as well).

The control is a bit loose at times (which is why I would love a joystick) so targeting and actually hitting enemies is a challenge, but it definitely gives the feel of an actual dogfight, the combat is fast-paced and I have, more than once, flew by my opponent and had to quickly turn around.

I haven’t leveled up quite enough to talk to much about those systems (only a few times) but it seems fairly simple and straightforward. The character models are a bit scarce (less than a dozen I think) so there isn’t a great deal of customization in that part, and their are only a few different gear models (ships) but they can be upgraded and changed a bit, so that’s not such a big deal.

All in all the game is great, in areas that it lacks it makes up for simply based on how much fun you are going to have when playing it.

After you go and download this game (which you should) look me up. I’m on the Hovernmus server, character “Sychie”.

First Thoughts: Fly for Fun

I’ve been playing the game for a coupe of days now, picking up on things here and there, and I have to say, it is quite fun. I’m not going to lie, and say it’s the best MMO I’ve ever played, but it is a lot of fun and well worth the time it takes to download.

The graphics are certainly nothing special, they aren’t bad by any means (they remind me of Rose Online, for those who’ve played that) they just aren’t top of the line, jaw-dropping graphics. They do have a certain simple charm though, and, animations and spell effects may not be breathtaking, but they are effective and run nicely even without a high-end video card.

The combat is fairly simple, double click to attack, use some of the abilities/skills you’ve gained, and monsters fall fairly easily. I haven’t yet gotten high enough to gain many abilities, nor have I leveled up enough to change classes from what you start as, so I can’t comment on how that works (though it does seem interesting and I’m eager to find out how it works.)

One thing that I have found to be a bit annoying is the control, which is a bit to loose at some points and to tight at others, it doesn’t hurt anything badly per se, but it does cause some aggravation at times.

Overall, I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far, and will definitely continue playing.

Next up is Space Cowboy Online, which I just got a chance to install last night. Hopefully I’ll get to playing that, and posting my comments, soon.

Gala-Net/GPotato

GPotato, it seems, has a handful of other games under it’s belt (they are the same people as the Rappelz game I mentioned yesterday. The company (or at least it’s US base) is called GALA-NET, Inc.. I’m not exactly sure how they do it, but the games they have are all free to play (at least as far as I can tell, and that’s what it says on the site). Two other games, aside from Rappelz, are Fly for Fun and Space Cowboy Online. All the games look fairly nice from the screenshots, and I’ll definitely be downloading and playing them each in turn so I can give a bit of a write up on them.

At very least some interesting ideas are presented in the games, and I’m really eager to start playing them (if only because I’m cheap).
