Finally Done; and Another New One

Rhyming not intentional.

It took me a while but I was finally able to get Rappelz fully downloaded, now I just have to install it and wait for updates of course, but it is a start. I also found and downloaded another game that is in beta, Voyage Century Online, a free game that looks quite a bit like Pirates of the Burning Seas which I just talked about a few posts back. I’ll have to see how it is, but the fact that it is free is never a bad thing.

I’ll also try to create some videos of my first play experiences in the game to get people interested. I make no promises as to quality though, I’m not much good with video editing.

For those that want to try it out (and what have you got to lose but some time, they are free to play) be aware that the downloads for both are pretty big, and if you don’t get good download speeds try for downloading off another server.

Okay, so I’ve had this game downloaded for a bit, but only played it for about 5 minutes, not because it was that bad, just because my laptop battery ran out and I didn’t feel like plugging it into AC power. Within the next week or so though, I’d like to spend some time with it and see how it actually plays. It is free to play, so if you want, check out the website and download it for yourself.

Gala-Net/GPotato

GPotato, it seems, has a handful of other games under it’s belt (they are the same people as the Rappelz game I mentioned yesterday. The company (or at least it’s US base) is called GALA-NET, Inc.. I’m not exactly sure how they do it, but the games they have are all free to play (at least as far as I can tell, and that’s what it says on the site). Two other games, aside from Rappelz, are Fly for Fun and Space Cowboy Online. All the games look fairly nice from the screenshots, and I’ll definitely be downloading and playing them each in turn so I can give a bit of a write up on them.

At very least some interesting ideas are presented in the games, and I’m really eager to start playing them (if only because I’m cheap).

Rappelz Beta

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

I happened to stumble upon this as I was browsing around for some interesting stuff. It’s a free download and free to play. From just looking at the screenshots it seems interesting and pretty nice. I’ll be sure to download and check it out so I can post some opinions.

Sweet Sweet Side-Scrolling Action

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

So the next WoW this is not, but it’s still a fun and interesting diversion from time to time. What am I referring to? Maple Story. It’s an interesting game, 2D, side scrolling and, best of all, completely free to play. Head over to the site for the sign-up and download (make sure to use Internet Explorer only at the moment). The system is nothing to incredible, fight monsters, do some quests, level up and increase stats/abilities. Choose a job class (warrior, bowman, thief and magician) and get new skills based on that.

Your game of choice down for maintenance for a bit? Give Maple Story a try in the downtime, if nothing else you’ll watch an hour or so go by as you mess around in the game world.

The game looks really good as well. Obviously its 2D and you won’t see any eye-popping graphics, but the art is well done and the animations for the characters and others work. The music isn’t exactly Beethoven but it isn’t to horribly annoying if you aren’t listening to something else anyway.

The quests and such are pretty much standard RPG fare, kill this monster, gather this item, take this item to this person, etc. but it’s amusing enough that, though repetitive, it’s still fun.

If you’ve got some time to kill, go ahead and download it, it’s well worth the couple MB space it will take up.
