And On That Note
It occurs to me that a great many people don’t play MMORPGs. My blog isn’t like some of the other 451 Press gaming site, like XBox 360 Rally or Wii Rally. Not in a better or worse way, just in a general sense. When I say something like MMOG, or MMORPG or some random acronym/phrase specific to MMO Gaming there is a large portion of possible readers that have no idea what I’m talking about.
Console gaming is much more mainstream, and far more socially acceptable than playing an MMO is. Once again, this isn’t a good or bad thing, and games like WoW are taking massive steps to change that, but on the whole a very elite (okay, I say elite, you probably say something like “obsessively nerdy”) group of gamers play MMOs.
Partially this is due to investment, both in time and money. An MMO tends to require more of each than a typical console game, the fact that any MMO worth playing also provides a ton more content and constant updates escapes some people, but I digress.
The point of this post isn’t to discuss how much better an MMO is compared to a normal console game, it’s to discuss a new feature, as I am always so determined to add, to this blog. Because a large group don’t know what the hell I’m talking about when I rant of death penalties and poorly designed grouping systems I thought it would be a good idea to introduce what I am calling the “MMO Primer”. This post will focus on what an MMO(RP)G is, some of the commonly used acronyms/phrases, and so on, for those readers that may not get exactly what I am saying but are at least intrigued.
Thanks everyone for reading!
